According to CoStar - the platform for commercial real estate information, analytics and news – the UK capital, as well as Dublin and Istanbul, are the only three cities in Europe which will see an increase in more than 3,000 rooms in 2025.

CoStar’s figures revealed that there could be as many as 171,000 rooms on the way as a result of all the hotels under construction in Europe at present, with nearly 250,000 more in various stages of planning.

In the Asia Pacific region it is estimated there will be more than 225,000 rooms to open this coming year, while the Middle East and Africa could see at least 50,000 more rooms, compared to nearly 140,000 in America.

Certainly for London, it reiterates the fact that the city is one of Europe’s go-to destinations not just for tourists but for business travellers too.

With the increase in rooms it’s obvious that there will be an upsurge in more international visitors, helped by the fact the accommodation is so diverse.

And for event planners, the hope is that this surge in room availability will spark competition in the sector which could lead to lower room rates.

As this influx of new accommodation will soon become reality, it’s a clear indication that the way travellers want to experience tourism is changing.

Not only must this new hotel infrastructure evolve to cater for budget-conscious tourism, it must also prioritise sustainability where possible.

For our event planners and venue finders at Brighter, the figures have to stack up for our clients, while ensuring sustainability is fully integrated into our planning from the outset.

We can’t wait to see some of these new builds – we’ll no doubt be featuring some of them in our monthly Venue Spotlight… watch this space!
