Sustainability of events is increasingly important for so many of our clients.
It can be complex, with so many ways we can make a difference.
We at Brighter were proud to have received the ISO 20121 certification for sustainable meetings and events earlier this year.
The whole team – who underwent sustainable events training -continually strive to deliver our events as environmentally-friendly as possible.
We’ve also updated all our marketing material to include green symbols and compliance logos recognised by our customers.
We have drawn up five top tips which could help your events in 2025 achieve more of your sustainability goals.
First of all, we communicate with event attendees and let them know how they can play their part in going greener. That can be done through workshops or organising panel sessions and speakers – the more interactive, the better!
And after every event, we always update the client on the sustainability data too which helps when organising the next one.
Secondly, we like to try to get attendees to use public transport for the event. Either that or a car share, or even make their way to it on a bike or e-scooter.
As well as being able to offer virtual options for attendance, incentives to use green ways to travel can also improve an event’s green credentials.
Thirdly, we like to try to use local businesses when organising an event. Not only does that cut down on carbon emissions, we also endeavour to ensure any promotional material and decorations are eco-friendly and reusable, rather than be single-use plastics.
Sustainably-sourced options are also high on our list when aiming to use local food and drink suppliers too.
Fourthly, we aim to use reusable and compostable materials when serving food and drink and encourage delegates to recycle thanks to easily accessible waste segregation bins.
We also try to distribute any left-over food or materials to local organisations where we can.
Last but not least we try to use green venues which are powered by renewable energy. Daytime events can cut down on artificial lighting too, a perfect example of how we are constantly looking at ways in which we can improve an event’s sustainability.
